Run with Me - Another Way to Mark TSA's 10th Birthday.

Cindy Tabernacki

I started running 5 yrears ago  for a few different reasons - weight loss, stress release and to help cope with the loss of a loved one.

I usually run 1.5 to 2 miles four days a week.

The early going wasn't easy by any means but week by week my running gradually got easier and hey I got thinner! Now I run because I have honestly become addicted to it but I have never run in any race even though the thought has crossed my mind on several occasions.

When I saw  Run with Me on the tsalga.com site I decided to finally commit to a 5K. I will be running the Ridge Run which is on the South West side of Chicago on Memorial Day.

I hope to take it a step further and start training in the new year for a beginners triathlon in June.

I am not a cold weather runner so I retreat to the indoors and my treadmill in the colder months.

My advice for anyone thinking about running? Give it a try. You have nothing to lose - except weight itself. Invest in a good pair of running shoes! Although they can be costly a good pair of shoes can make all the difference in the world especially on your knees.

My motivational text? Its from when my son was 9 and diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic and he ran his first 5K "Run like the wind Bullseye" from Toy Story.

Update 8/29/2012

I just wanted to let you know that I did my first Supersprint Tri this past Saturday. All went well although I did find out that while I can tread water I am not the swimmer I thought I was!

It was the Life Time Supersprint Tri in Chicago at Montrose Harbor. It was .375 meter swim, 10km bike and a 5km run.

I had hoped to do it in an hour but the chain on my bike came off and I came in at 1 hr. 26 sec.

I finished 13 out of 30 for my age group which was 50-55. I am very happy with how I finished and I smiled through the rest of the day! I am looking forward to my next run/tri! Cindy Tabernacki
