Dog forces plane to land

12/07/10  US Air flight 522 from Newark to Phoenix had to be diverted to Pittsburgh for an unscheduled landing after a passenger's dog got loose at 30,000ft and bit two people on board.

The passenger with the dog was supposed to keep it in its cage under her seat, which is the airline's policy. But she took it out and the dog ran loose. The dog’s owner opened the cage despite being told not to, said Valerie Wunder, a spokeswoman for US Airways.

The dog bit a passenger who had tried to calm it and then broke out of its cage, officials said. The animal then ran up the plane's aisle and bit a flight attendant who tried to grab it.

The pilot decided to land and have the bites treated.
