I know that it is not easy, but every day people show it can be done. The more you know about how to quit, the better your chances for success. There is not one "right" way to quit smoking that work for everyone. But believe me it can be done. Read how I did it. I smoked for 20 years and I quit.

Within 12 hours after you have your last cigarette, your body will begin to heal itself. The levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decline rapidly, and your heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarette smoke. See below some more benefits of quitting.

In 24 hours • Your chance of heart attack drops.
In 2 days • Your ability to smell and taste improve.
In 2 to 3 weeks • Your circulation gets better.
  • You can walk more easily.
  • Your lung function improves.
In 1 month • Your cough, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath decrease.
  • Your lungs start to repair themselves, reducing the chance of infection.
In 1 year • Your risk of heart disease is cut in half.
In 5 years • Your risk of cancer of mouth, throat, and esophagus drops by about half.
  • Your risk of stroke and heart disease is reduced to that of non-smokers (about 5 to 15 years after quitting).
In 10 years • Your chance of dying of lung cancer is about the same as non-smokers.
